San Francisco is calling, and Turbo Goth was thrilled to answer! Last Month, we’re made our way to the City by the Bay for two electrifying shows: one at the Brick and Mortar Music Hall and another at the vibrant San Francisco Music City. Alongside our friends from Modern Future, we’ll celebrate music, creativity, and the unforgettable spirit of San Francisco.
But before we hit the stage, let’s talk about the rich musical legacy of this iconic city and some of our favorite songs that capture its essence.
San Francisco: A Musical Inspiration
San Francisco has inspired countless musicians and artists, becoming the backdrop for some of the most famous songsin history. Whether it’s the nostalgic lyrics of Tony Bennett’s "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" (featuring those little cable cars), or Otis Redding’s soulful "Dock of the Bay" (co-written with guitarist Steve Cropper), this city’s beauty and charm are undeniable. It’s no wonder San Francisco is often called the "Paris of the West".
Here are some of our favorite San Francisco-themed tracks that we’ll have on repeat during our visit:
Our Favorite Songs About San Francisco
1. "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" by Tony Bennett
Arguably the official song of the city, Tony Bennett’s timeless ballad paints a vivid picture of San Francisco’s beauty, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the cool, crisp air. Its elegance and simplicity make it a perfect anthem for the Bay Area.
2. "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding
Written in Sausalito and released after Otis Redding’s tragic plane crash, this song captures the reflective mood of staring out at the San Francisco Bay. Its soulful tone and connection to the National Recording Registry ensure its lasting legacy.
3. "Fake Tales of San Francisco" by Arctic Monkeys
This energetic track from the UK band humorously critiques those who romanticize San Francisco without truly knowing it. It’s a reminder that even the "cold wind" and "Frisco town" have their own raw, authentic beauty.
4. "San Francisco Nights" by Eric Burdon and The Animals
With its laid-back vibe, this track offers a psychedelic take on the city during the Summer of Love, evoking images of young people wearing flowers in their hair and gathering at Fisherman’s Wharf.
5. "San Francisco Bay Blues" by Peggy Lee
This upbeat song is a classic that’s been covered by artists from Jerry Garcia Band to Eric Clapton. Its catchy tune and heartfelt lyrics celebrate the city’s enduring charm.

Beyond music, we can’t wait to explore San Francisco’s landmarks. From walking across the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoying the views at Grace Cathedral Hill, this city offers endless inspiration. We’re also eager to visit Market Street, Fisherman’s Wharf, and perhaps find time to catch some live radio playing the Beautiful South or Judy Garland’s classics.
